Walter Presents has announced the launch of its latest series and it looks like another very exciting coup for Walter and for All4: a brand new series from Hans Rosenfeldt, the creator of The Bridge. The new 10 part Swedish thriller THE LAWYER was created by Rosenfeldt as well as Michael Hjorth, his writing partner on the Sebastian Bergman novels, and Jens Lapidus (the Easy Money trilogy). The series is set in the high stakes world of law and follows Frank Nordling, a young and exceptionally promising defense lawyer, whose whole world unravels when he learns the truth behind his adoptive parents’ death.

As children, Frank and his sister Sara witnessed their parents die in a car bomb explosion. As adults, Sara, now a policewoman, is still obsessing over solving their parents’ murder while Frank is making every attempt to put the past behind him. When Sara finally forces him into her investigation, they are shocked to find out their parents were killed by one of the leaders in Copenhagen’s criminal underworld, Thomas Waldman. To Frank’s horror, Waldman also happens to be one of the most prominent clients of his friend’s law firm. In order to avenge his parents’ death, Frank must infiltrate Waldman’s organisation to become his personal lawyer and trusted confidant. But is it worth the price when it hits too close to home?
Upon its release in Sweden last year, The Lawyer was nominated for both Best Television Drama and Best Actor for Alexander Karim (Frank Nordling) at the Kristallen awards, and is now the most watched series ever on Viaplay in Sweden and Denmark. Among a host of familiar faces viewers may recognise Nicolaj Kopernikus, who plays Waldman’s lawyer Svend-Erik Wisén, as Vagn Skærbæk from the popular Swedish TV series The Killing and Thomas Bo Larsen (Thomas Waldman) as Mads from the first two seasons of Follow the Money. There’s also one member of the cast who viewers may be more likely to recognise from a non-Scandi production: Malin Buska (Sara Khalil) also played Satu in Sky’s popular drama series A Discovery of Witches.
The first episode will launch on Channel 4 on Sunday 23 June at 11.00pm with the boxset available on Walter Presents via All4 immediately after the first episode airs.
