Walter Presents picks up 9 new series from Beta Film: including Rocco Schiavone, The Hunter and The Pleasure Principle for the UK.

WALTER PRESENTS the global TV drama service has secured eight drama titles in a multi-territory deal with Beta Film. Three Italian series: The Hunter (Il Cacciatore), Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders, and period drama Imperial (Grand Hotel) , two Spanish series: Under Suspicion (Bajo sospecha) and What the Future Holds (El día de mañana), Canadian French series The Wall – Cover Your Tracks (La Faille), Swedish series Hassel and German hit thriller The Vanishing (Das Verschwinden) are all included in the deal, containing a number of specific territories for each series.

The deal with Beta Film includes three seasons of two very different Italian thrillers. The Hunter is a tense, fast-paced mafia story set in Sicily and inspired by true events. After years of street-level arrests, young prosecutor Saverio is appointed to the anti-mafia unit. Eventually he will be responsible for putting over 300 Mafiosi behind bars and will earn the nickname ‘The Hunter’. Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders is based on Antonio Manzini’s novels and is a detective series unusually set in the snowy mountains of the alps. These two shows are confirmed for Walter Presents UK – fingers crossed for some of the others appearing here too. We’ll keep you updated when we know more.

In addition to the above we can confirm that, in a separate deal with Beta Film, Walter Presents have also picked up The Pleasure Principle (Zasada przyjemnosci) for the UK (other territories TBC). The Pleasure Principle is an internationally co-produced crime drama which aired on Canal+ in Poland in 2019 and involves the investigation of linked murders taking place in 3 cities: Warsaw, Prague & Odessa.

WALTER PRESENTS Co-founder and curator Walter Iuzzolino says: “As Walter Presents continues to expand to new territories and our existing audiences remain hungry for new content there is an ever growing need to acquire quality drama from distributors in bigger volume deals. With such a rich and textured slate sourced from countries across the world, we’re delighted to secure this deal with Beta Film. As an Italian I’m particularly proud to see the growing popularity of Italian drama and am delighted to have secured two very different but equally compelling Italian thrillers.”

Beta Film EVP Oliver Bachert commented: “Beta Film is proud to accompany Walter Presents success story and support its offer in countries like UK, US, Russian Federation, Benelux or Australia with a curated selection of high profile drama that proved their potential in their home territories. We hope that the expansion will continue to build a great showcase for global drama.”

    1. It depends where you are. It looks like the releases are going to be different in each country with only the 3 series definitely confirmed for the UK so far. We often get these initial press releases well before the series actually air so I’ll be (pleasantly) surprised if any of these appear this year – 2021 is more likely. In the US on the other hand the first seasons of The Hunter and Rocco Schiavone are already out.

    1. If you’re in the UK then – yes it will definitely return in 2022. If you’re in the US – where 3 seasons are already available – then I think season 4 should be available in 2022 but I don’t think that has been officially confirmed yet.
