One of of Denmark’s most popular series is heading to Walter Presents. Seaside Hotel (Badehotellet) has been airing on TV2 since 2013 and is the channel’s highest rating series in the last 22 years : season 7 is due to air in early 2020.
Think Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie – a charming drama set beside the beautiful North sea sand dunes in 1920s Denmark. Chambermaid Fie is starting her first day of work at a rural beach hotel. Her father warns her not to fraternize with the bourgeois guests, but as secrets about each guest begin to unravel, the seemingly idyllic rural life is much more dramatic than Fie expected…
Fie is an 18-year-old girl from a working-class family, with a recently deceased mother and a father who is ill from a lifetime working at the mill. She needs to earn some money fast and manages to land a job at the Seaside Hotel. The hotel owner is immediately charmed by her good looks and quickly promotes her to chambermaid, which causes shockwaves through the normally strictly conventional hotel; the owner’s wife is
wary, the other maids are jealous and the local, young farmer is intrigued by this pretty new addition to his client’s staff. As the annual visitors settle into their rooms, Fie begins to learn about old habits and new secrets, and as their chambermaid unwittingly becomes party to betrayal, murder and unexpected desires.
Seaside Hotel sports an all-star cast with Rosalinde Mynster nominated for best actress at the Robert Festival for her role playing Fie, and Anette Støvelbæk, who is married to International Emmy award-winning actor Lars Mikkelsen.

Why does Fie leave the show? I have not seen seasons 6 and seven but I can see in the previews that she is no longer with the show. Doesn’t this essentially ruin the story line of the show since it has so much been centered around Fie?

Unfortunately we’ve only had the first season in the UK so far so can’t comment on how that might affect future storylines. It’s not uncommon for long running shows like this to have major cast changes & focus on different characters though so I wouldn’t worry too much.

My wife and I have been enjoying this series nightly on Amazon Prime. We too wonder about lovely Fie, but I guess either she has other acting opportunities or it was just time for a change. Most importantly, she finally married Morten and has a son and is in relative safety in England. (we hope that season 8 will soon be available on AP as we are steaming through Season 7!) (easy to get hooked!)

Seaside is such a fantastic show! The only show my mother and I watch and look forward to together! The characters all have such interesting relationships and the way they work things out and always come together is admirable. It was just so hard when Fie left the show after season 5… feels like the soul as the show is gone now.
